Are Entra and Intune the Same?

By Jake Turner on 8/25/25

Description: This short article gives you our insight onto some of the differences between Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Intune.

Short Answer:

No, Entra and Intune are two different Microsoft offerings.

Long Answer:

Entra and Intune are two different, but closely tied Microsoft offerings. Entra refers to Microsoft Entra ID, and identity and access management (IAM) platform for managing all of your organization's users and security settings. Microsoft Intune is designed to be a complete mobile device management (MDM) platform for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android devices.

While there is some crossover between the two services, Entra's device management is essentially limited to basic settings about which devices can associate themselves with the Entra ID tenant and the storage of BitLocker keys. On the other hand, Intune leverages Entra by allowing you to assign configurations and policies to the devices/groups joined to Entra ID.

Conclusion:

Microsoft Entra and Microsoft Intune are two different services, but they do work hand-in-hand together to create a seamless experience for managing your users and devices. For all of your Microsoft consulting and license purchasing needs, we encourage you to contact us!
