Disabling Autologon (Sysinternals) on Windows

By Ryan A on 12/23/24

Description: If you've previously setup Autlogon from Microsoft Sysinternals on a workstation and no longer want to keep it active, we provide two methods to do so below.

Need to install Sysinternals Autologon instead? Find it on Microsoft's site here.

Option 1: Run Autologon Setup Wizard Again (Safer)

The simplest and safest way to disable Autologon is to simply download and run the Autologon wizard again and click "Disable"

Option 2: Clear Registry Settings

If you are unable to run the Autologon wizard again, or the tool is otherwise unable to clear the configuration, a fallback option is to manually reset the Registry keys that control this feature.

NOTE: Improperly editing Registry settings can cause serious system instability. Proceed with caution and read the disclaimer at the bottom of this page. You should also consider backing up your registry before modifying it.

Steps:

1. Open Registry Editor (Win + R and open "regedit")

2. Navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/Current Version/Winlogon

3. Edit and save the following values:

Conclusion

After restarting the workstation, Autologon should no longer run!
