If you've just purchased a FortiGuard/FortiCare license (hopefully from Cosmistack!) and need to activate it, you have two ways to do this. The first option is to use the FortiCloud asset management interface to apply the contract registration code. Some Fortinet devices, such as FortiGate, will allow you to apply the registration code directly from the device's web management interface, but this may vary between devices and software versions, so we'll stick with FortiCloud in this tutorial.
Before You Start
- 1. Have your Contract Registration Code on hand and double-check it is for the correct service you intended to order. If you purchased a license through Cosmistack, we'll send you a PDF document with your service registration information.
- 2. Ensure you can login and have the appropriate permissions to apply licenses in FortiCloud
Use FortiCloud Asset Management
1. Go to https://support.fortinet.com and log into FortiCloud. If you aren't taken to "Asset Management" automatically, click the "Services" dropdown from the header at the top of the screen and go to "Asset Management"
2. In the left-hand sidebar, choose Products > Product List and click on the device you want to apply this license to (Note: FortiCloud Asset Management often refers to devices as "Product(s)" so we may use the terms interchangeably here)
3. From the device's page, you can see the device's current entitlements. In our example, we're missing a license for FortiGuard URL, DNS & Video Filtering Service, so that's what we'll be applying.
4. From the "Registration" section, choose "Add Licenses"
5. Enter your Contract Registration Code and choose whether the End User is a government or non-government user. Click "Next"
6. On the "Registration Info" screen, confirm the contract and product details. If something doesn't look right, contact your reseller and/or Fortinet. Click "Next"
7. On the "Verification" screen, you'll see all of the product's entitlements, and you should see the "Activation Date" for the service you are registering as today's date. If all looks good, click the confirmation checkbox and click "Confirm"
8. You should now see a confirmation message! Keep in mind the registration may not reflect immediately (up to 4 hours per Fortinet), so don't be concerned if it doesn't seem to have updated.
