In computer networking, latency (usually measured in milliseconds) is the amount of time that it takes for a network request occur. More specifically, it is the amount of time it takes a given data packet to travel from one location to another.
High latency (meaning a longer response time) is generally undesired, while low latency (short response time) is preferred. High latency does not necessarily mean the network request will fail, but it will take longer to complete and can result in user frustration.
